two blasts in Mombasa this
Saturday evening.
One explosion was inside a Chania
Bus in Mwembe Tayari in
Mombasa while the other was in
Nyali’s Reef Hotel.
Three people are feared dead and
scores seriously injured from the
two explosions.
One passenger allegedly entered a
Chania Bus with a hand held
grenade at Mwembe Tayari and
hurled it, killing three on the spot
and injuring several others.
In the second incident, a bag was
left at the Reef Hotel with an
Improvised Explosive Device (IED)
before it went off. However, no
death has been reported.
So far no one has claimed
responsibility but preliminary
reports indicate that it could be a
terror attack.
The injured were taken to Coast
Provincial General Hospital and
doctors say some are in critical
condition and the number of the
dead is expected to rise.
The Chania bus was arriving from
Nairobi and it is believed one of
the casualties is the suicide
bomber.
Police have sealed the two areas
and other security organs are on
high alert.
Mombasa police boss, Robert
Kitur, and County Commissioner,
Nelson Marwa, are already at the
scene.
